Volunteer Spotlight
George Gumfory
Update: George successfully completed the EMT-1 Initial Certification Course on November 23, 2024 and is now an AK Certified EMT! Congratulations George and thanks again for the hard work and dedication.
As one of the first volunteers for CREMS since its re-inception, George’s dependability and commitment in responding to EMS calls has been second to none. CREMS is thankful and fortunate to have George as a member of our EMS crew.
George moved with his daughter to the Copper River Basin in 2020 after having seasonally worked in the area since 2009. Seeing a need in the community for volunteers, George joined Gakona Fire and Rescue in 2022, where he earned his certification as an Emergency Trauma Technician (ETT). His passion for learning remote emergency care and preparedness has driven him to acquire certifications as a Wilderness First Responder, Wildland Firefighter 2, and achieve his 40-hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) card.
George’s dedication to helping others and his community provides him with all the motivation he needs to make the drive from his home in Glennallen to Kenny Lake each weekday evening to attend the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) class that is currently in session. His future goals include acquiring the level of EMT 2 and WWF 1.
